The Climber’s primary responsibility is to prune or remove trees.  In addition, s/he will assist in groundwork and equipment maintenance.  S/he is responsible for working in a safe and professional manner, completing work accurately, on-time, and within the established quotas and quality guidelines.


  • Safely climb all species and sizes of trees.
  • Prune or remove trees listed on work orders in keeping with the ISA guidelines.
  • Assist in ground clean-up, stumping or chipping and in maintaining a clean, organized job-site.
  • Maintain climbing saws, ropes, pole pruners and saddles in good working order; advise Supervisor when supplies are required.
  • Operate knuckle boom crane and bucket truck as required.
  • Ensure the safe use of equipment and tools through proper operation and maintenance; advise Supervisor when maintenance is required.
  • At all times comply with all health, safety and environmental regulations, ensuring a safe workplace at all times through the enforcement and promotion of Company safety and work rules, ensuring regular equipment and work-site inspections are conducted and that potential hazards are acted upon immediately and accident levels minimized.
  • Duties as assigned by Supervisor from time to time.


  • Graduate of College or University program related to arboriculture
  • ISA Certified Arborist or Ontario Certificate of Qualification an asset
  • Crane Operator (0-8ton) and EUSA certification an asset
  • Holder of valid Ontario DZ driver license with excellent driver record
  • Physically fit and able to work in varying climate conditions
  • Good communication skills, committed to workplace safety, team-oriented


  • Three – five years climbing experience in commercial tree care industry
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of pruning and tree removal
  • Demonstrated proficiency in safe operation of stumper, chipper, crane and aerial devices


  • Wages $23- $27, dependant on skill level
