Prepare Your Trees for Winter

Winter weather can be hard on our urban trees.  Here are some tips to help your trees weather the cold.

To reduce breakage and toppling from ice & snow load:
Prune your trees to remove diseased, dead or excess branches
Remove dead or hazardous trees
Tie up large evergreens and cable multi-stem trees or weak unions to reinforce branches.

To prevent winter drought:
Water your trees and evergreens until frost
Place mulch around the base of your trees to retain moisture in the soil.
Wrap evergreens in windy locations with burlap.

Annually, Have your trees inspected by a professional to ensure they are safe and healthy.
